Born in 1964 from Dutch-Indonesian parents in Amersfoort, The Netherlands he frequently improvised as an eight year old in slow speed “serimpi” like movement rituals before receiving admittance to the dance academy of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. After finishing a nine year study in classical ballet, folk dance, contemporary dance and music he started an eleven year carreer as a dancer with international companies such as London Festival Ballet, Basel Ballet, Concordanse Paris, Royal Ballet of Flanders and Hwa Kang Dance in Taipei.

Was assistant artistic director of Ulmer Ballet in Germany where Tai Chi was part of the daily training and has guest taught at several institutions in Europe and Asia. Worked as a dancer with original choreographers such as Mats Ek, Christopher Bruce, Michael Clark, Siobhan Davies and Lindsay Kemp. He started his own dance production in 1996 focusing upon the situation of eurasians in the Netherlands. Altough fascinated by Indonesian dances he strives for not copying these highly respected traditional art forms by melting elements of them into an own contemporary dance theatre vocabulary while honouring at the same time the typical Indonesian quality of improvisation.

He brought modern dance to the annual Pasar Malam Besar in The Hague in 1999 where his productions were performed each season for six years. In 2002 he created the first modern dance duet on Kroncong music ever and keeps up adding innovative elements in his works such as the use of electronic gamelan. His productions always evolve around unusual concepts and are inspired by autobiographical elements as well as literature and contemporary developments.  Annually his productions tour The Netherlands. “Luminescent Twilight” (2002), “Please Let Me See Your Face” (2003), “Stretching Time” (2004) and “Kebon” (2004) were seen in notable venues in Indonesia. March 2005 “Angin” was performed several times in Singapore commissioned by The Arts House and this same year his group piece, “Game” was executed by students of Lasalle SIA in Singapore. Autumn 2005, two of his productions, the solo performance “Angin” and most recent group piece “Kamu/Jij” toured Kuala Lumpur, Java and Bali. The frequency and scale of these SE Asian tours in combination with series of workshops are pioneering and historically of unique value.
