Today’s Stars of The Russian Ballet
10 July 2010 – Manila
10 July 2010 – Manila
All the young star dancers are masters of the virtuoso Vaganova ballet technique and they are now either dancing in Russia, are of Russian descent or formerly based and educated in previous Soviet Republics associated with the Russian Federation. Some still dance in Russia with the famed Mariinsky and Bolshoi ballets; some are stars in other companies.
The Bolshoi Ballet, Marinsky Ballet, and Ukrainian National Ballet are the cornerstones for classical ballet dancing. All companies are based in Russia where the gems of classical ballet-Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, among others-came from. These three ballet companies remain to be the best in the world.
Gerard Mosterd graduated in 1985 from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in the Netherlands taught by various academic dance teachers like Benjamin Harkarvy, Marian Sarstädt, Robert Fisher and Linda Goss. Danced subsequently with the Royal Ballet of landers lead by former Marinsky star Valery Panov and later Robert Denvers. Danced for five seasons classical, neo classsical and contemporary roles with London Festival Ballet/English National Ballet lead by Peter Schaufuss and later Ivan Nagy. Gerard was promoted through the ranks to soloist. Performed worldwide in venues productions by renowned choreographers from the classical, neo classical and modern scene. From Petipa to Lindsay Kemp, Christopher Bruce, Mats Ek and beyond. Danced in Makarova’s 1988 Swan Lake film. Joined Concordanse in Paris directed by Francine Richard and later Basel Ballet under Youri Vamos. Worked finally as a soloist and ballet master/assistant director for Ulmer Ballet in Germany before returning in 1996 to the Netherlands to focus on organizing and creating independent, Eurasian inspired productions. Annually Gerard realizes innovative, interdisciplinary productions and tours in the Netherlands and Asia. With his agency Kantor Pos he concentrates on facillitating the exchange of European-Asian physical theatre interaction. www.kantorpos.nl www.gerardmosterd.org
